Synopsis: A vicious and ruthless underworld character fatally wounds a young policeman after being disturbed trying to steal a car. There are witnesses, but all fail to identify the Homicide detective's prime suspect. It is a silent witness that finally catches him out - a vital piece of evidence left at the scene of the crime by the murderer himself.

Notes: Introduced by John Fegan talking about a policeman's commitment to duty. Based on the actual case of the murder of a young police constable, which drew an appreciative response from the victim's family, whom, in a letter to Crawfords, described the episode as 'a fine tribute to our son's courage and devotion to duty'.

Synopsis: An artist arrives at an outdoor party with a stunning blonde. Within minutes the girl is dead, and so is a young folk-singer who was also a party guest. Homicide detectives are called in to the off-beat world of an artist's colony to investigate the mysterious deaths, and suspense mounts as investigations into the puzzling case builds to an unexpected climax.

Notes: One scene required the police car window to be shot out, but there was no money in the budget for a windscreen. Drafting paper was put over the window with a hole cut out, and cameraman Alan Arnold filmed from the back seat as Leonard Teale and Terry McDermott in the front threw screwed up cellophane lolly wrappers in the air. The end result looked like a bullet shattering a windscreen. Guest actor Liz Harris (who would later marry Leonard Teale) performs a song, 'Three-Headed Dog', which was specially written for the episode by scriptwriter Ian Jones. Gerard Kennedy is credited as 'car driver', but he cannot be seen in the episode.
